The Town would like to remind residents that flushable wipes, paper towels, and other non-toilet paper products must not be flushed into the sanitary sewer system.
While some products are marked as “flushable” they do not break down like toilet paper and can cause significant issues within both private plumbing and the municipal sewer system such as creating blockages, sewer backups, damage to pumps and infrastructure, and increased maintenance costs.
All wipes, (including baby wipes, disinfecting wipes, and “flushable” wipes), paper towels, hygiene products, and similar materials should be disposed of in the garbage.
By making this small change, residents can help protect municipal infrastructure, reduce unnecessary costs, and prevent avoidable backups.
We appreciate your cooperation in keeping our sanitary system functioning properly.
