As of this morning, Friday June 12th, the Alberta River Forecast Centre has ended the High Streamflow Advisory for the South Saskatchewan River as water levels continue to fall and flows have returned to above normal seasonal levels.
While the advisory has ended, the river remains higher and faster than what many residents may be accustomed to seeing.
Riverbanks can be unstable, water temperatures remain cold, and currents can still be strong.
Please continue to use caution around the river:
- Keep children and pets away from riverbanks and water edges.
- Stay back from steep or eroded banks.
- Avoid entering the river or attempting to wade.
- Use extra caution when fishing, walking trails, or enjoying riverfront areas.
- Always keep pets leashed and under control near the water.
As we move into the summer season, residents are encouraged to remain aware of changing river conditions and practice safe recreation around waterways.
The Town of Redcliff thanks residents for their cooperation and vigilance throughout this advisory period.
Stay safe and enjoy the river responsibly!
