The Town of Redcliff is reminding residents that wipes—even those marketed as “flushable”—should never be flushed down the toilet.
Items such as baby wipes, cosmetic wipes, cleaning wipes, paper towels, feminine hygiene products, dental floss, cotton swabs, diapers, and other similar products can cause significant blockages in the sanitary sewer system. These blockages can lead to costly repairs, sewer backups, and service disruptions for residents.
Under the Town’s Sanitary Sewer System Bylaw, the disposal of wipes and other prohibited materials into the sanitary sewer system is not permitted.
Property owners may be held responsible for repair costs if a blockage is traced back to prohibited materials being flushed.
