Planning & Development Policies

Planning decisions are often complex and must consider legislation and documents from all levels of government pertaining to a wide-range of topics from flood protection and separation distances from active gas wells to protection of natural and cultural resources. In addition to federal and provincial legislation, municipalities develop their own policies to help guide development and development decisions. Section 638.2 of the Alberta Municipal Government Act (MGA) requires all municipalities to publish a list of all municipal policies, not approved under Part 17 of the MGA, which influence planning decisions.
